Attack Tips and Strategies Part 1

You’ve probably heard people tell you to do your best to try and stay alive a million times, but what does that really mean? In competitive play where rounds can last on average over 2 minutes, every player has a chance to change the flow of the round. The main reason that you have to stay alive is not just because you’re completely useless when your dead, because you can be useless when your alive as well. Instead it’s because the more pressure put on the other team the more likely you will win due to your threshold of backup players that haven’t died. Putting down lines isn’t going to help your team if you aren’t putting them in the right place.

When you are attacking in fortress your main priority is the sweepers. With the sweepers alive it makes your life so much harder because not only are you worrying about them blocking you and possibly killing you, you also have to worry about what they are going to do if you die and theres no more attackers left. Because if that happens, you just sent another player to harrass your defense.

Generally I like to say sweepers are free points if you handle them correctly. A good sweeper can stop you from getting to the defense for a good 5 to 7 seconds. What seperates a good sweeper from a great sweeper is how they manage you, the attacker once you do get past them. The first thing you have to remember is to be always put pressure on the defense, because the sweeper knows his job is to stop you from doing that and aslong as you’re doing that as far as he is concerned hes not doing his job correctly.  Just because the steps tell you to take out the sweepers first does not mean you shouldn’t make a nice cut on the defender if the opportunity allows you. Also when attempting to use the sweeper’s blocks against him you need to be aware of where the sweeper is in relation to you and what he is doing. To do this you may need to change your camera settings to work more appropriately. Taking a few matches to either watch a good sweeper play from their view or play a few matches as a sweeper yourself can really develop a sense of what the sweeper is trying to accomplish because even seeing it from another position’s view can greatly change the feel of the game.

I’ll cover some strategies for taking on the defense in part 2.

probably the best way to take on a sweeper is the same way the sweepers take on an attacker. Double team them. basically grind hard on the defenders wall and turn away to surround the sweeper. If they’re good, they’ll turn around and barrel the other way. Then have your other attacker close the gap.

They have one less player, and you are 2 points closer to winning.
